On St. Patrick's Day, 2006, The Mighty Ploughboys and their revolving door of guitar players, found themselves in a rut and broke-up. That same night, vocalist/bassist Pat Hearty determined to find the missing pieces to the puzzle. After weeks of searching, guitarist Mike Smith and drummer Jim Lynch joined the band and things fell into place. Sean Finnerty soon joined afterwards and the lineup was then complete.
In no time at all, the guys were ready for a live audience, but were the audiences ready for them? On July 28th, 2006, the band debuted as The Mighty Ploughboys at "Pub Night Under the Stars" at the AOH in Danbury, Connecticut. Before long, the band's brand of Irish classics with a modern-rock twist were in high demand. By the fall of 2007, The Mighty Ploughboys were playing everywhere from small pubs and parties to large community Irish festivals. The demand led to the additions of Mitch as band manager and Don as sound engineer.
In 2007, the band continued to bring it's unique sound and repetoire to locations throughout Fairfield County and into New York. But it wasn't until March 2008 that their big break came. On St. Patrick's Day, the band made it's television debut as they provided live entertainment throughout WFSB/CBS Channel 3's morning show. The response was so great, the producers of the show invited the band back for 2009's edition.
The Mighty Ploughboys look to bring their interpretation of Irish classics and modern Celtic rock to as many people as they can in the hopes of getting audiences "irish up".
